Yoga In The Tradition Of B.K.S. Iyengar

In this kind of teaching, special attention is paid to the anatomical orientation of the body in the asanas. Props such as blocks, blankets, rolls, chairs, belts, ropes and wall can be used for various purposes: increase or diminish the intensity of an asana, to place the focus of the asana, to compensate for physical flexibility or stiffness and practice in a therapeutic approach. Also inverted postures like headstand and shoulder stand, passive poses and final relaxation (savasana) are essential  elements of the class structure. In a sequence of a class, both the relaxing and the activating nervous system are stimulated in a  balanced way.
